The Gaming console producers have started a war of their own!

0

With the increasing competition in this modern market arena, product life cycles have been forced to become shorter. This similar threat is being faced by Sony; the developers of Play Station. At this particular point, Sony is by far the market leader when talking about gaming consoles, with Nintendo and Microsoft trying to constantly catch up with it. However, as planned forecasts by Sony, it might be in danger. Why? In the next year, Nintendo and Microsoft are said to launch Wii 2 and the new Xbox which are said to be much more powerful and equipped with more features than Play Station 3.
It has been rumored that the new Wii 2 will also have a blu-ray drive, which will bring the Play Station 3 down, as its unique selling feature will have been copied by Nintendo. All of these movements by competitors have forced Sony to start working on the development of the next Play Station. Though a plus point and an advantage that Sony has is that it can carefully plan its window for unveiling its new Play Station 4, keeping track of what the competitors are doing. This sudden increase in the intensity of competitors amongst gaming console rivals has decreased the average life span of a new gaming console. Hence Sony, who has planned to release the Play Station 4 in 2016 have started developments on it already! So it is rumored that in the year 2013, one can expect the Wii 2, the new Xbox and Play Station 4 all at once!

Developer makes the Latest Android OS Work Smoothly on 1st Gen Smartphone

0

So you sulked with your first generation Android phone while the world went ahead and past you as Android OS kept developing from Froyo to Honeycomb and now Ice Cream Sandwich. No need to, as a developer (or shall we say hacker) has somehow succeeded in maing the latest OS run smoothly on first gen Android phone. It is not like enabling a 3 year old PC to run on the latest OS developed by Microsoft which is considered normal. In the world of smartphones, companies see to it that people are not able to run the more advanced OS on their earlier generation smartphones as they want people to buy their new phones and not remain stuck with earlier ones.

In any case, everything from hardware to software changes in a flash in the world of mobiles. There is therefore no chance of running the latest OS on an old smartphone, or so people believe, isn’t it? But a developer has recently successfully run the latest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich on T-Mobile’s smartphone that dates back to October 2008. The video where the developer demonstrates this amazing feat has been posted on a forum on the internet and anyone can see how Ice Cream sandwich that is Android OS 4.0 is running smoothly on first gen Android phone.

There is no doubt about the success of the experiment though it has to be admitted that apps were running slowly and the hardware caused a lag between a command and the phone’s response.

Android Project Started much Earlier than iPhone: Google

0

It is no secret now that Steve Jobs had no love lost for Android. He felt that Android and other smartphones were a rip off on iPhone and that he must fight with all his money and might to set things right. Now that Jobs is no more, Google’s Executive Chairman Schmidt has come out with his take on Jobs’ perceptions and what he feels is correct.

Schmidt said that he respects Steve as a human being but added that Google is a great innovator, a fact known to all across the world. According to Schmidt, work on Android, an OS for mobiles, began much earlier than the time when iOS came to existence. Many would agree with Schmidt on this point as Android Inc was started by Andy Rubin way back in 2003 and was taken over by Google in 2005 when Apple had not introduced or even talked about iPhone.

However, the launch of products namely iPhone and Android do not favor Schmidt’s assertions. While iPhone arrived in the market in 2007, Android based devices were seen in the market for the first time in 2008. Not many people are aware of the fact that Schmidt, who is executive Chairman in Google today was working in Apple till 2006.

Schmidt denies any copying of iPhone for the development of Android saying there was no animosity between him and Jobs even after leaving Apple and that he and Jobs had many dinners after wards and Jobs was always friendly towards him till the end.

Nook Tablet to Arrive soon

0

For long Apple ruled the world of tablets and indeed its iPad 2 was a gem of a gadget, drawing praise from even the hardest to please connoisseurs. But then came along Amazon Kindle at prices that were a fraction of iPad 2,and the first wave of competition to iPad was felt by Apple. It is no surprise that Amazon’s rival Barnes and Noble has finally entered the tablet market and is trying to pull the rug from under the feet of Apple by introducing its own tablet in the market.

The latest offering by Nook is much more than just being an e-Book reader as it runs on Android OS, has dual screens, and allows the owner to lend e-Books. Its impact will most likely be felt more by Apple’s iPad 2 than anyone else. The new tablet from Barnes and Noble  was introduced to the media in a conference call by the CEO William Lynch who avoided drawing any comparison with Apple’s iPad 2 but hinted at possible confrontation with Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

Nook tablet is still expected to be primarily a e-Book reader with additional capabilities and features that would remind people of using a tablet. The tablet would have a screen of 7 inches but will be priced at $249, which is 450 more than Kindle Fire. Nook is planning full time physical stores to help the users with any problems they may face using the new features of the tablet.

The CEO said that Nook would remain a e-Book reader at its heart but technology is changing at a fast pace and even a e-Book reader cannot remain stuck with the past if it has to stand any chance of surviving and competing with other gadgets in the market. Adding capabilities of web browsing and multimedia features to a e-Book reader is a new trend and with Kindle and Nook going Apple’s way, it opens up new possibilities for all those who desired a tablet along with an e-Book reader but could not cough up 4500 to have all the features in a single device.

Samsung To Be Microsoft’s First Windows 8 Tablet Partner?

0

Yesterday we heard that Microsoft will show of its first Windows 8 tablet next week at its annual conference, and now it would appear that the first Windows 8 tablet we will see is from Samsung.

According to a recent report, Microsoft will show off a reference model Windows 8 tablet next week, which has been manufactured by Samsung, although there are no details as yet on the specifications we might see.

Samsung already produces a number of popular Android tablets, which have had problems recently due to the various court cases going on between Apple and Samsung.

If Samsung were to start producing Windows 8 tablets as well as Android based tablets it would be a good move for the company, as the outcome of the various legal cases brought against Samsung by Apple for their Android tablets is yet to be decided.
